what are SILVERVINE GALLS?

Silvervine galls are small, irregular swellings or bumps that form on the leaves and stems of silvervine (Actinidia polygama) plants, caused by gall midges (a type of insect) laying eggs in the tissue. These galls are sometimes called "matatabi" galls and are used in traditional Japanese medicine and as cat stimulants (similar to catnip), often considered more potent than the unaffected fruit or plant material.
